The Artist’s Studio

Our tools were pencils, pens, charcoal, black ink and water, brushes, rollers and sellotape.

Sainsbury Centre’s panels of glass, polished floor and massive space presented as a wonderland of shadows, reflections and perspectives. Our paper occupied the space between lift, reception and entrance to the Artist’ Studio exhibition. First we taped down plastic dustsheet to protect the high specification floor surface. Placed diagonally
it cut drastically across the space. There was still access for the public but the position commanded attention. Sam and I stretched the paper over the lift creating a kind of tent, increasing the sense of drama and inhabiting the space.
